Ordinance September 2000 :

Ordinance was issued by Govt. of Maharashtra to regulate & control of coaching classes MCOA filed writ petition in Mumbai High Court against it. The High Court granted stay on the ordinance.
Subsequently the ordinance lapsed and became inapplicable.

28th June 2008 : High Court sets up panel to regulate coaching classes to form strict rules & guidelines for setting up and functioning of coaching classes in Maharashtra.

5th May 2009 : High court says coaching classes fees to be regulated.

2014 : The High Court was about to pass an order for regulation of coaching classes. The Association raised some technical points & the matter was transferred to another bench ofjudges. The matter is still pending with the Mumbai High Court.

Service Tax Matters:
Association made representations to various Govt. authorities against levy of service tax on coaching activities. July 2003 office bearers met the deputy director of service tax and gave a memorandum raising various issues.

Profession Tax Matters: Professional tax department issued notices to some coaching classes demanding professional tax interest and penalty. The Association has filed a writ petition against improper interpretation of the law by professional tax authorities. The matter is still pending in the court.
